MAGP #13, Friends of the Poor 5K, New Ipswich

The Friends of the Poor 5K was super fun. Great prizes, great food, great running weather and a moderately challenging course.  Thanks to the volunteers, the church and sponsors for making this a successful race helping local people in need.

This was the next to last MAGP race in 2018, the last 5K. The only remaining MAGP race is the Stone Arch Bridge 10 miler in Keene.

MAGP #12, HoFall 5K September 23 rd , 2018

The HoFall 5k is nearly entirely on rail trail, except where it pops over a sizable hill with lots of roots. This course had a little of everything except roads! I think we ran through a large overflow culvert at some point!. The weather was perfect and the raffle prizes were very nice and numerous. I think everyone got a raffle prize. Thanks Michelle.

MAGP #11, Viking 5k at Mascenic Regional HS

On Saturday 9/15, New Ipswich showed how much it likes to run. Of the 125 runners competing in the Viking 5K, 84 were from New Ipswich. There were 34 runners below 13 yo and 28 of those were from New Ipswich. That isn’t counting the 20 to 30 kids in the Fun Run. It was great to see so many kids competing and having fun in this 5k. Carol, Mike and everyone helping with this race made it extremely fun day. There was music, great homemade foods, iced coffee, an lots of raffle prizes. A good start for Viking homecoming day.

Mascenic XC runner Mike Fappiano won the race at 18:32. Amy Martel was first female at 22:24. Noted young rocket runners: Logan Lucas, 11 yo, came in 7th at 21:50. Skye Lambert, only 12 yo was second place female clocking in at 22:28!

MAGP #10, Marlborough Mad Dash

This past Saturday, 49 runners enjoyed a beautiful, sunny, cool morning 5k in Marlborough, NH. Jesse Edwards lead the pack and pulled away to win decisively with a time of 19:07.  Kristen Seitz was first for women at 24:34.  Runners ages ranged from 8 to 80 yo! Thanks to Shu and Mary Minami for bringing their great cousin from Japan to experience a classic New England 5k.  Thanks to American Legion, Croteau-Coutts for fun, food and beautiful race.

MAGP #9, Run for the Honey

The weather alerts started buzzing cellphones Friday night.  And the rain came down heavy at times. Early Saturday the local news reported washed out roads in Monadnock area. Rt 101 was closed in Dublin.  Later we found out Dublin, Harrisville and Hancock were hardest hit.  And yet 130 runners found a way to get to Hanock to run for the 'honey'. They came from Walpole,  Westmoreland, Keene, Munsonville and other towns further. Somehow they found roads to get to the Hancock.  Although threatening, the weather held out for the race, no thunder, lightning or rain.   After the 5k, the little runners had great fun in the Fun Run.  The ConVal XC team had a great showing; winning first and second for both male and female.  Evan Coyne won the race for second year in a row. Thanks to Hancock Department of Public Works for regrading some roads early Saturday for our race.  Thanks to all volunteers and racers.  And thanks for the popsicles!

MAGP #8, Run for the Rescue

The weather cooperated!  The forecast thundershowers did not materialize and the Jaffrey Fire Department Run for the Rescue 5K was run under mostly blue skies.   The course is half rail trail and half woods trail and today it was also 25% mud.  The recent heavy rains made many deep and slippery mud puddles, The air was humid and muggy but not oppressively hot.  Those conditions didn't prevent Chris Bernier from winning at an impressive 17:44.   Krystal Ambrosini took first place for women's at 22:29.

There were 70 runners braving the muddy trails and woods.

MAGP #7 results 4 on the 4th, Keene

One hot mile, two hot miles, three hot miles, four.  A lot of crazy, dedicated runners lined up at 8:00 AM for the 4 on the 4th in Keene on one of the hottest weeks and day's of the year.  The start of the race had been moved 30 minutes earlier than originally scheduled in effort to beat the unusual heat.  Not many runners had to 'warm up' before the race.  There were many much appreciated water stations along the race.  Finishers were rewarded with all types of refreshing food and drinks but also popsicles, sprinkler shower and air conditioning in the Scores bar (if necessary).   Ted Greer of Ted's Sports, Keene gave away many awards and prizes. Runners with festive, patriotic or 4th of July running attire were especially rewarded with prizes.  Ted did try to hurry up giving out the endless prizes because the day was only getting hotter.

MAGP #6 results: Race for Our Store 5K

71 runners came to Francestown to support the 200 year old Village Store.  The Deschenes family had a strong showing, with Haven coming in third, father Andre in 8th and eleven year old Mason coming in 11th place. Impressive. The first place male and female awards went to George Shiarella and Kristen Ramey respectively.   Runners as young as 6 years old (Maddie Schlieben) completed the course including that 1.5 mile climb uphill at the end.  The 5k course started in front of the Village Store and traveled south eventually following the old Francestown 5 route back into town. There was both magnificent gifts and food.  Nothing like fresh oven baked pizza from American Flatbread after a race.
